Stained Glass

Normally stained glass needs restored between 80 years to 100 years after installation. That doesn't take into account the devastation caused by a disaster, such as a fire or storm. D.T. Mistick & Co. offers preventative maintenance and complete restoration of stained glass. Complete restoration involves removing windows from the structure. In the safety of our studio, the windows are removed from the frame, completely disassembled and cleaned, replacing glass when needed with the original glass or near-original without impairing the integrity of the piece. Although most of our work is done with churches, the beauty of stained glass is also found in residences and public buildings.

CASE STUDY: Stained Glass

Luzerne County Courthouse

D.T. Mistick worked closely with the State Historic and Museum Commission and architect Carl Handman to complete stained glass window repairs at the Luzerne County Courthouse in Wilkes-Barre, PA.

The four large stained glass windows beneath the main Luzerne County Courthouse dome have been restored and reinstalled including the stained glass window that depicts the county's coal mining heritage.

Scaffolding was erected inside the building for removal and reinstallation of the four windows, which are technically composed of 12 separate panels. New window frames and storm windows were also part of the project.
